Joomla is a free, open-source content management system (CMS) and application framework that powers 2.7% of the entire web. Currently Joomla 1.6 is just released with lots of flexibility to create a dynamic website as you like. This page describes the total step-by-step installation of Joomla 1.6 for your dynamic website.
Steps to Install Joomla 1.6 for Your Dynamic Website:
The installation of Joomla 1.6 is same like the Joomla installation 1.5. Yet this page is explained the installation of Joomla 1.6 of your website. Just follow the step by step procedure to install Joomla 1.6 for your dynamic website or blog or any website:
Pre-requirements of Joomla 1.6 Installation:
Step 1: Download XAMPP and install XAMPP in your computer. After complete installation, run Apache and MySQL. Remember, you must need to run the Apache server and MySQL database for install / use Joomla 1.6.
Step 2: Download the Joomla 1.6 installation file (Joomla 1.6 installation file looks like Joomla_1.6.0-Stable-Full_Package.zip) form the official website www.joomla.org website.
Installation procedure of Joomla 1.6 Installation:
Step 3: Extract the Joomla 1.6 intallation file (in Step 2) and rename it according to your website name. For example, we rename it as Joomla16.
Step 4: Open any browser and type the following address into your browser URL.
http://localhost/name-of-the-folder-of-Joomla
Here, name-of-the-folder-of-Joomla will be the name of your Joomla 1.6 extracted folder. For our tutorial, the it will be replaced by Joomla16. So, the address would look like the following:
http://localhost/joomla16
Step 5: After step-4, the first step of installation of Joomla 1.6 will be started. Just select the language (we select English (United States)) and forward to the next step by clicking the Next button.
Step 6: Pre-Installation Check is the next phase of installation of Joomla 1.6. Check whether all the settings like PHP, MySQL etc. is running without any error. If any error exists, then the error is marked with red color. You just need to fix all the error to forward the next step. Now, click on Next button for the next step.
Step 7: In this step, you need to agree the terms and conditions of Joomla 1.6. Just Agree the terms and conditions and click on Next button to go forward.
Step 8: After finishing Step 7, we need to configure database. Just change the following settings:
- Database Type: Choose MySQL for the Database type.
- Host Name: Type localhost in the Host Name field
- Username: Choose the username of the database. The default username after install XAMPP is root. Just type root. However, you may choose other name as the username exists in the database.
- Password: Put the password in this field otherwise keep blank if there is no password.
- Database Name: Choose a database name for your website. If you already create any database then type the name in this field. We choose joomladb as the database name for our website.
After the above configuration of database, click on Next button to go forward.
Step 9: In this step, you can configure the FTP settings for your website. Generally, most users / website owners skip this step. Just press the Next button to go the next step of Joomla 1.6 installation.
Step 10: This is the Main Configuration of your Joomla 1.6 website. In this step, you need to do the following things:
- Site Name: Chose a site name for your website and put it into there. For our website, we type My Joomla 1.6 Site as the site name of our website.
- Admin Email: Type the email address of the administrator of the website. We type here hideMyTips@gmail.com as the admin email address.
- Admin Username: Choose an admin name to login the admin control panel. Just type the name and remember it when you try to log in to your website. For our site, we type it as administrator as the admin name of our Joomla 1.6 website.
- Admin Password: Type a desired password to login to your admin panel of your website.
- Confirm Admin Password: Just retype the admin password
However, you may click on Install Sample Data if you like some sample data for your website. If you like to start a blank website with no data then don’t click on this button. At last click on Next button to move the next step.
Step 11: In this step, you need to delete the installation folder of our Joomla 1.6 installation folder. Go to the folder of your website where you installed the Joomla 1.6 website and delete the installation folder from there.
And thus the installation of Joomla 1.6 is finished after deleting the above installation folder. By following the above steps, you could easily install Joomla 1.6 for your dynamic website. Now, you can easily access the website by clicking the button Site or access the website admin control panel by clicking the Administrator button.
Note:
- To access the Joomla 1.6 installed website, type the address http://localhost/name-of-the-folder-of-Joomla. For our website, the address looks like http://localhost/joomla16
- To access the Joomla 1.6 installed website in admin panel, type the address http://localhost/name-of-the-folder-of-Joomla/administraor to your browser address bar and hit Enter key to access. For our website, the address looks like http://localhost/joomla16/administrator
